Final Exam Information for  Jazz Ensemble

This semesters final exam will occur during zero period on Friday June 12 and Monday June 15.

Playing Test - Combo playing/Improvisation on Blues and Modal progressions.

Each member will be asked to perform in a combo group to demonstrate their ability to 

interpret correct style and phrasing of the assigned jazz melodies and to improvise over the chord changes using  appropriate scales and modes.

Written Test - Multiple Choice test on historical periods of Jazz Music, including identification of listening examples.

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE

The Tesoro Jazz Ensemble enjoyed tremendous success in 2009 with a second place finish at the Irvine High School Jazz Festival and a top ten finish in the 4A division at the Reno Jazz Festival. Congratulations to all of our Jazz Ensemble musicians.

The Jazz Ensemble plays big band compositions and arrangements in a variety of styles including; swing, blues, bebop, ballads, funk, rock, and latin.  Members of the ensemble work to develop proficiency in jazz phrasing and improvisation techniques. We will also explore some of the historic periods of Jazz History and its artists and influences.
