TESORO INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC DEPARTMENT NEWS

Attention Incoming Ninth Grade Musicians. Incoming ninth graders must be aware that as an instrumental musician, you do not have to enroll in the College and Career Planning (CCP) course that is now required of all freshmen. The school district will allow students enrolled in marching band, concert band and orchestra, to satisfy the CCP course requirements during the student’s tutorial class periods. With that requirement satisfied during tutorial, and by taking the zero period marching band class to satisfy the PE requirement, a student can open up TWO periods during the school day for a music elective and an additional academic class. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of this alternative being offered only to ninth grade students enrolling in the band or orchestra.

Pit Orchestra Earns Honors. The Tesoro Pit Orchestra was recognized by two of the judging associations in Orange county as one of the counties best. The Cappie Awards selected Tesoro as a finalist for their upcoming awards ceremony. Only 5 orchestras are accepted as finalist for the Cappie Awards. The Orchestra also earned the Highest Achievement award from the MACY judging association. Congratulations to our student musicians.

Tesoro Preview Field Show Dates Announced. The Tesoro Entertainment Units and Tesoro Music Boosters will be hosting the 2008 Tesoro Field Show Preview on Saturday, October 11 next Fall. We are hoping to make this years Third Annual Event our biggest and best ever.

Music Recognized by the Grammy Foundation. The Tesoro High School Music Program was selected as a Grammy Foundation Signature School finalist. Tesoro is one of 100 schools in the country to be selected. The Grammy Foundation recognizes and honors exceptional public high school music programs in the nation. Tesoro is one of 15 California high schools selected as finalists, competing with over 28,000 public high schools in the country.
